Remanufacturer Artech buys Powerlite Fitzgerald

The Artech Lighting factory in county Durham

Durham-based lighting maker and remanufacturer Artech Lighting has bought Powerlite Fitzgerald for an undisclosed fee.
The deal gives the company two respected industry brands and access to laser metalwork cutting, an SMD line, and in-house photometric and testing capabilities.
Artech Lighting, pictured, has a specialist ‘Revive’ service, which remanufactures luminaires, typically from fluorescent to LED. It can also add Bluetooth mesh controls at reconditioning stage. Previous projects include Yarm School in Yorkshire, a lighting upgrade which gave the client a 11-month payback. Artech Lighting has recently expanded into the Middle East, opening a new office in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Artech managing director Stuart Hylton told the press: ‘I’ve known both brands since the start of my career, and I’m really proud to be able to lead this next chapter of two brilliant businesses operating in different markets with an enviable set of in-house expertise.’
‘Both companies have solid foundations rooted in the industry, but this partnership allows us to build on our successes, increasing investment and opportunity for both parties, whilst continuing business as usual independently.
‘When the opportunity to invest in Powerlite Fitzgerald came along, it immediately made sense.
‘Both are prominent names in lighting, and ones I’ve known since the start of my own career, so it’s come full circle to now be custodian of these recognised brands and this fantastic organisation.
‘While we will share and instil best practice across both companies, there will be no ‘centralising’ of services – these are two separate businesses operating in different markets with an enviable set of in-house expertise, something we will be looking to build on in the coming months.’
Powerlite bought Cornwall-based Fitzgerald, a prominent UK brand, out of administration in 2019 to form Powerlite Fitzgerald. The latter was in turn bought by Nick Robinson and a colleague in a management buy-out in 2022.
Robinson, the retiring managing director of Powerlite Fitzgerald, added: ‘After a long and fulfilling career with Powerlite Fitzgerald, I wanted to ensure that the business would be handed over to an organisation that truly values its legacy and future.
‘Artech Lighting is a trusted company and under the team’s management I’m certain that Powerlite Fitzgerald will continue to thrive, with Artech putting the best interests of both the business and its people first.’
