Recolight reiterates the importance of WEEE compliance at LuxLive 2015

Recolight at LUX Live 2015

Recolight, the UK’s leading Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) compliance scheme for lighting, exhibited at LuxLive 2015 in ExCel London on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November.

LuxLive 2015, the largest and most successful LuxLive yet, marked the fifth consecutive year for the Recolight team. Nigel Harvey, CEO, delivered a presentation providing insight into the key changes and consequences for lighting Producers of the WEEE legislation.

Following the publication of new guidelines for the implementation of dual use in February 2015, the Environment Agency (EA) has written to lamp Producers to stress the importance of recording lamp data correctly. If Producers have not recorded the tonnage of B2B and B2C products put on market correctly, market shares and financial obligations for 2016 will be incorrect. Producers must submit their final data to the EA by the end of January 2016 in order to avoid an artificially high target in 2016, or in serious cases, legal action.

Nigel Harvey said, “As the UK’s leading scheme in the UK for lighting WEEE, it is important that Recolight educates Producers about vital changes to WEEE legislation. Further WEEE regulation amendments are due to be laid before parliament shortly, revising regulations 20, 21 and 51. The proposed “netting off” of exported EEE will be an excellent way of making sure that the WEEE target producers receive is fair and not overstated”.

Together with its 165 members and growing support base, Recolight has to date recycled over 36,000 tonnes of lamps, LEDs and luminaires, more than all other UK WEEE schemes put together.
