Recolight presents at European seminar to raise concerns about WEEE compliance of online retailers

Two European trade associations are hosting a seminar in September to focus on the WEEE compliance of online retail platforms.  EucoLight and WEEE forum are running the seminar together to draw attention to an OECD report that suggests a high level of non-compliance in online sales.

Recolight CEO Nigel Harvey will present at the seminar, which will also be attended by representatives from the European Commission, and a number of EU Member States.

The OECD will present their report, which estimates the level of non- compliance that arises as a result on online retail sales.  The report also proposes a number of legislative solutions to solving the problem.  Other presenters and panellists include Alexander Goldberg of the European WEEE Registers Network, Michael Owens, from the Environmental Protection Agency in Ireland, Jonathan Perry of Dell, and Maria Banti of the European Commission.

Commenting on the launch of the seminar, Nigel Harvey said “We are very pleased that this important issue is being given the high profile that it deserves.  Non-compliance with the WEEE directive has negative environmental consequences.  It also puts compliant producers at a competitive disadvantage.  We look forward to hearing how the issue may be tackled.”

The seminar takes place on 13 September in Brussels.  Further details can be found on the EucoLight website.
