Introducing Max Robson

I joined Recolight in July, bringing with me a background that combines a PhD in the chemical formulation of nanoelectronics and experience as a sustainability consultant. Now, as Environmental Metrics Manager, I support lighting manufacturers in advancing sustainability while aligning with my passion for environmental responsibility – a marriage of professional and personal interests. 

In my role, I work with UK lighting manufacturers to navigate the complexities of environmental product declarations (EPDs). This includes conducting EPD-focused workshops to provide training and offering technical guidance for life cycle assessments (LCAs) needed to create EPDs.

I firmly believe that embedding life cycle thinking within organisations is a transformative way to drive sustainable product innovation. Empowering manufacturers with the right tools is central to this vision. 

That’s why Recolight has partnered with One Click LCA, whose platform streamlines the process of generating EPDs for luminaire products. In addition, as demand for EPDs continues to grow, the need for manual verification is expected to surge. Pre-verified tools, like those offered by One Click LCA, will be crucial for enabling manufacturers to obtain EPDs faster and more efficiently. 

EPDs represent a vital investment for the lighting industry, especially as the built environment increasingly faces sustainability-driven regulations that demand credible metrics. The momentum is moving in the right direction, and the journey is aptly named: environmental footprints must first be measured before they can be managed, reported, and used to support responsible practices.
