‘Give us used lights for our new office’, says JLL
Top property developer JLL is on the hunt for for high-quality used materials including luminaires which could be used in its new headquarters at One Broadgate in London.
Fit-out firm Overbury put out a plea for the pre-loved items on social media because it says a key objective of the work is the reduction of embodied carbon.
‘Together with JLL, we’re tackling this head on by sourcing existing high-quality materials from commercial grade offices and construction sites,’ says Overbury ‘Applying ambitious circular procurement strategies to minimise embodied carbon and give valuable resources a second life.’
It says that cross sector collaboration between original equipment manufacturers, contractors and subcontractors, occupiers, developers and landlords is key to making the circular economy a reality.
The team is evaluating all types of materials including electrical items, structural elements, architectural finishes and mechanical elements.
JLL signed an agreement for lease for 134,000 square feet at Broadgate, EC2, British Land’s 32-acre campus adjacent to Liverpool Street Station.
1 Broadgate will become JLL’s flagship UK office and this commitment is part of the reimagination of its workplace strategy.
JLL has agreed to take three floors at 1 Broadgate on a 15-year lease and will take occupation in 2026.
The building comprises 546,000 sq ft of some of the highest quality, most sustainable mixed-use space in London, including 498,000 sq ft of best-in-class workspace, 47,000 sq ft of roof terraces and 48,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.
JLL and British Land, who have both publicly committed to achieving their own net zero carbon targets, will work in partnership to deliver a sustainable workspace that it says will push the boundaries for corporate real estate in central London and the wider industry.
1 Broadgate is being designed to meet the requirements of UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Buildings framework and is targeting highest level of BREEAM and WELL certification.
