EGG unveils panel designed for remanufacture
Scottish manufacturer EGG Lighting has unveiled a ceiling panel light that’s been designed from the outset for remanufacturing.
At the end of its life, EGG says that the 600mm x 600mm fitting can be easily upgraded to like-new condition in accordance with the remanufacturing standard BS8887.
The optics, LED module and control gear – all Zhaga-certified components –are designed to be easily interchangeable and swappable.
The company says it has used its experience and expertise in remanufacturing – it is one of the pioneers in sustainability in the industry – to design the product, which is known as the Designed for Remanufacture, or DFR, panel.
The DFR has a Cibse TM66 circularity rating of 2.6, putting it in the ‘excellent’ band.
The fitting is rated at a L90B50 lifetime of 50,000 hours and comes with a five-year warranty. The colour rendering index is 80 and it’s available in colour temperatures of 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. It has an efficiency of 158 lm/W.
An emergency version is available using an NIMH battery. In terms of control an optional integrating PIR sensor is available and DALI 2 and Casambi-enabled drivers are options.
EGG Lighting’s remanufacturing service was the winner of prestigious Gold and Green ratings in the Build Back Better Awards in 2021.
The company says that it believes that remanufacture is the most sophisticated circular technique as it upgrades used lighting to modern performance with minimum waste.
It says that while many organisations are forced to send slow-moving, returned or surplus stock to be recycled, its circular service is designed to turn these problems into opportunities for all involved. ‘Recycling, in the view of the circular economy, should be the last resort. It downgrades materials; losing residual component value.’
EGG Lighting says its BS887 process gives the business the confidence to offer as-new warranties on upgraded luminaires.
