Dan Weissman interview: How “perception-based” lighting can deliver sustainability
US lighting design practice Lam Partners has long pioneered the use of digital tools to deliver sophisticated lit environments. Those same tools can be used to optimise sustainability, says senior associate Dan Weissman.
In this special video short, he tells Circular Lighting Report editor Ray Molony video how “perception-based” lighting can put illumination only where necessary.
“We’re following in Bill Lam’s footsteps of perception-based lighting and using validated, photometrically accurate, real-time visualisation tools to achieve this promise. We look at things from regular interior spaces where we’re trying to maximise spacings on fixtures and create comfortable, luminous interior environments or minimising light pollution in outdoor environments by really trying to provide the bare minimum while creating wonderful experiences for people.”
