Household Luminaires – get WEEE ready
The official definition of EEE (Electrical and electronic equipment)
Products that are dependent on electric currents or electromagnetic field to work properly are in scope i.e. when the current is off, the equipment cannot fulfil its basic function.
Electrical and electronic products are not just those connected to a mains supply, but also include wind-up, battery-powered and solar-powered products.
Household Luminaires and the WEEE Regulations
Household luminaires will finally come into scope of the WEEE Regulations in January 2019. A household luminaire is any light fitting that can be used in both the home and commercially.
Producers of domestic light fittings will need to join a Producer Compliance scheme in 2018. In 2019 they will be required to report all products sold and in 2020 the government will set a target for collection and recycling.
Recolight offer a flat fee for the weight of products sold, and no hidden charges to cover the cost of recycling.
