All lamp producers should offer free lamp recycling, according to Facilities Managers
Results from a survey at the Facilities Show in Birmingham this year showed that the majority of Facilities Managers think that all lamp producers should be required to offer free lamp recycling.
Facilities Show survey
From 14-16 May 2012, Recolight met industry players at the world’s leading facilities management event, The Facilities Show, and surveyed Facilities Managers from all sectors. The results also showed that 97% of those surveyed believed that all lamp producers should be obliged to finance free lamp recycling.
Respondents were asked how important they think free lamp recycling is for encouraging recycling; whether all lamp producers should be required to offer free lamp recycling; and whether the target of recycling 65% of lamps by 2016 is achievable.
Free lamp recycling
The survey found that the overwhelming majority thought that free lamp recycling is extremely important for encouraging recycling and that all producers should be required to offer such a service.
As the UK’s specialist WEEE lamp compliance scheme, Recolight already provides free lamp recycling on behalf of its lamp producer members.
Better awareness needed to increase household recycling rates
Encouragingly, 94% also believed that the target of recycling 65% of lamps by 2016 is achievable. Those who answered no to this question cited “better awareness” as an absolute must for the targets to be achieved and suggested that this is especially true for household recycling.
