EA data shows Recolight is UK’s fastest growing WEEE Scheme in 2015

During 2015, the Recolight WEEE compliance scheme membership increased more than any other UK scheme.  Analysis of Environment Agency data released this week shows Recolight had net growth of 23 producers between the end of 2014, and the beginning of 2016.  That is also Recolight’s biggest annual increase recorded since the scheme was established in 2007.

Commenting on the news, Recolight’s CEO Nigel Harvey said: “We are delighted that so many companies chose to join Recolight during 2015.  Companies join Recolight because we operate in a radically different way from other WEEE schemes.  Most schemes with a lighting obligation simply buy lamp recycling evidence to meet their obligations.  Instead, at Recolight we offer the customers of our members a free of charge recycling service.  For our members, that means the additional benefits for their customers are material.  It moves WEEE from simply a compliance function, and into a value added solution.”

Adrian Willis, Recolight’s Membership Development Manager added, “Many of our members tell me they choose Recolight because of our charging mechanism.  Recolight fees are set annually on a fixed “per item” sold basis.  That means Recolight carries the risk of changing national targets, and not our members, and allows our members to confidently budget their full year WEEE costs.”

Since 2009, Recolight’s producer membership has grown at an annualised rate of 16%. The not for profit company is primarily focused on the lighting industry WEEE compliance.  In 2015, it was also a founder member of EucoLight, a new European trade association of lighting WEEE schemes.
