Trojan goes plastic-free with its packaging

Trojan Lighting has announced that it has introduced plastic-free packaging

Trojan Lighting has announced that it has introduced plastic-free packaging across its entire product range.

The St Helens-based company – a specialist in energy saving and intelligent lighting and remanufacturing for the commercial, retail and public sectors – has instead adopted paper packaging to house its luminaires.

‘This change is part of our ongoing efforts to embrace eco-friendly practices and contribute to a healthier planet,’ said the firm. ‘Switching to paper bags not only minimises plastic waste but also aligns with our mission to provide quality products while protecting our environment for future generations.’

Trojan, headed by managing director Anthony Barrow, has particular expertise and experience in adding intelligence – such as the Mymesh adaptive control platform – to luminaires during remanufacturing. Clients include the National Health Service, the Post Office, Bluewater Shopping Centre, Channel 4 Television and Landsec.

Over 90 per cent of Trojan’s HQ and satellite office’s energy was produced by on-site solar panel installation during the months of June and July. This is also used to charge the company’s fleet of electric vehicles, which makes up 90 per cent of its total fleet.

The LED light sources and control gear supplied in Trojan’s light fittings comply with the EU Single Lighting Regulations and the firm is a member

of Recolight’s WEEE compliance scheme.

It is also one of the supporters of Circular Lighting Live 2024, the UK’s largest event dedicated to sustainable lighting.

The company has signed a sponsorship and exhibiting deal for the one-day conference and exhibition, organised by lighting industry sustainability champion Recolight.

’We’re really chuffed to have a brand like Trojan on board,’ says Nigel Harvey, CEO of Recolight. ‘The company has done some really impressive remanufacturing projects across the UK and are a perfect fit for our values of sustainability and circularity.’

• Trojan Lighting is one of the headline backers of Circular Lighting Live 2024, Recolight’s flagship conference and exhibition, which takes place on Wednesday 9 October 2024 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
