Modular downlight is made from recycled materials

Lucent Oculus Mini

Lucent Lighting has unveiled a modular downlight that’s predominantly made from recycled materials.

The Oculus Mini is also modular to ensure easy refurbishment to extend the lifetime of the fixture.

The eyeball-style light – aimed at high end hospitality, retail and residential applications – is adjustable in all directions and features a range of beam options including superspot, high efficacy and warm dim.

Lucent Lighting says it is designing products for longevity, ease of repair, and maintenance. By extending the lifespan of its products, Lucent aims to reduce the need for premature replacements, contributing to a more sustainable approach.

Oculus Mini is available in a variety of trim and trimless mounting options which blend into ceiling surfaces and aesthetics such as plastered ceilings and wood and stone.

It features toolless installation, adjustments and maintenance. A version with a high IP rating for kitchen, bathroom and fire-rated applications is available.

The standard Oculus meets PL1Dwellings and Displays and the Oculus HE (High Efficacy) version meets PL2 General

Earlier this year, Lucent Lighting announced that it is climate neutral. It says it achieved the status by meticulously calculating its carbon footprint and offsetting its total emissions.

The measures it has implemented include a focus on the more efficient use of resources and careful sourcing of goods and services.
Each Lucent Lighting product undergoes a life cycle assessment (LCA), minimising environmental impacts and providing a comprehensive environmental report.

‘At Lucent Lighting, sustainability isn’t just a goal,’ says global operations director Lucie Sidwell. ‘It’s the essence of our innovation. We believe in crafting solutions that not only illuminate spaces but also light the way towards a greener, more responsible future.

In 2021, the company won Gold and Green awards in the prestigious Build Back Better Awards for its TubeLED Mini HE, at the time a major change in the company’s design thinking.
