Womenswear brand specifies 3D and bio spotlights
The womenswear brand self-portrait has used 3D-printed and bio plastic spotlights at its latest outlet in Bicester Village.
Sustainability was said to be central to the brief to interior designer and architectural practice IDL Group, which specified the 3D printed high efficiency Nort GS and Colt Bio spotlights from UK manufacturer Shoplight.
The luminaires offer 72 per cent and 71 per cent reusable and recyclable components respectively.
The Nort and Colt Bio are made from plant-based polymers rather than traditional aluminium housing, allows the firm to reduce carbon emissions during manufacture by up to 95 per cent.
Surplus plastic from the production of the luminaire is recycled using an onsite 3devo shredder. Once granulated, the plastic is reformed using an extruding machine ready to be repurposed as a new product.
The Nort GS and Colt Bio downlight are modular in design, allowing them to be repaired or upgraded quickly. At the end of life, they can be returned to Shoplight for a credit towards new bio-polymer products.
Peterborough-based Shoplight is also promising a take-back scheme for its bioplastic products, including the Nort. It says it can reuse all major components and reform the plastic back into new products. It’s also boasts a patented cooling system to take the heat away from the LED sources.
Shoplight also has a remanufacturing service for retailers and hospitality customers, dubbed Recycle. The company removes the luminaires from the store onsite and replaces them with temporary loaned replacements. It then upgrades the LED module and drivers and returns the upgraded light to the store. The luminaire has been tested and warrantied for five years.
Stoplight says the new LED module and driver will typically reduce the energy consumption by between 15 and 20 per cent due to the improved efficiencies of new LED modules.
