Retailer in LED-for-LED spotlight upgrade
A shoe retailer has upgraded its failing LED spotlights to the latest generation LEDs rather than replace them.
Scottish chain Begg Shoes discovered that it was less costly and better for the environment to refurbish the gimbal-style luminaires rather than send them into the waste stream and purchase a new set.
Southampton-based Commercial Lighting Systems used its spectrometer to precisely identify the colour temperature of the original LED chip so as to provide an identical replacement.
It provided its comprehensive LED conversion service, dismantling and refurbishing the existing units, replacing the failed LED chips as well as installing all new drivers.
The company was also able to significantly reduce the system output from 30W to 18.4W with improved efficiency – providing comparable light output for much less energy usage.
The end result being essentially new luminaires matching the quality and reliability of its existing Sovereign range. Commercial Lighting Systems has tested the spotlights in its laboratory and issued the client a fresh five-year warranty.
Commercial Lighting Systems has built up its remanufacturing division –dubbed ReVive – in recent years. Much of its work is reconditioned Willy Meyer luminaires – the company is a UK distributor of the brand – but it is also happy to upgrade products not originally supplied by it. ‘While replacing end-of-life fittings with new would be easier and more profitable for us,’ says CLS, ‘we strive for sustainability and value for the client above all else.’
The company was formed in Hampshire back in 1991 by two of its present directors, Phil Cutting and Don Falstein.
Begg Shoes is one of the oldest shoe retailers in the UK. Established in 1866, the family-run business has nine standalone stores in Scotland as far away as Shetland and Orkney Islands.
