Signify releases 2,000 EPDs
Global lighting brand Signify has published 2,000 environmental product declarations, or EPDs, for some 70,000 product variations.
It’s believed to be the biggest release of luminaire sustainability information in the industry.
The company says it is committed to eventually sharing the environmental impact of its full range of products.
EPDs quantify products’ environmental impact over their full life cycle, enabling specifiers to compare products and make informed decisions on lighting.
In addition to driving what the company called greater transparency for its customers, EPDs are advancing evidence-based sustainable innovation in Signify, providing a quantified footprint which acts as a baseline for further improvements in next generation product iterations.
‘Signify is committed to making the low-carbon future a reality, offering businesses, cities and consumers energy-efficient products, systems, and services that can reduce global electricity consumption for lighting by over a third’, Maurice Loosschilder, head of sustainability at Signify, told the Circular Lighting Report.
’Being transparent about our products’ environmental impact gives customers the information they need to make informed decisions, whether they are lighting cities, offices, or their own homes, as well as helping us to meet our own sustainability goals.’
Signify also announced it has halved its greenhouse gas emissions since 2019, achieving a cumulative emissions reduction of 334 million tonnes CO2e beyond the level required to meet the Paris Agreement 1.5-degree target.
The targets were set as part of Signify’s sustainability program, launched in 2020. The program is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aims to double Signify’s positive impact on the environment and society by the end of 2025. As part of this program, the company is reducing its emissions at double the pace required by the Paris Agreement’s 1.5-degree scenario. It also commits to double its circular revenues to 32% and Brighter Lives revenues to 32 per cent and to double the number of women in leadership roles to 34 per cent by the end of 2025.
