Meet the light made from a food dish

The French outdoor lighting brand Roger Pradier has unveiled a range of wall luminaires made from standard Pyrex bowls and food dishes.
The company – which is located just 4 kilometres from the Pyrex glass factory in Chateauroux – said that it has long held an ambition to work with its household-name neighbour.
It was keen that it use standard Pyrex products – including a bowl and food dish – to create its latest range of luminaires. Even the metal is an off-cut from another product.
The range – the brainchild of Roger Pradier’s chief designer Stéphane Joyeux – includes the Carex, made from a glass food container, and Ronex, made from a glass bowl.
The sheet metal used to create the two luminaires are sheets are offcuts from the production of other luminaires in the Roger Pradier collection. The are reformed and then lacquered.
The Rolex has and IP65 rating and a G9 source and is guaranteed to operate in the thermal range of -10C to 50C. Both of the luminaires are available in a range of RAL colours, depending on quantities, and are guaranteed for five years.
Roger Pradier has a history dating back to 1910, when it was created by Jean Pradier, father of Roger. In 2013 the company obtained the coveted ‘Living Heritage Company’ label in recognition of its history.
Pyrex was introduced by Corning Inc. in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware.
In 1922, manufacturing of Pyrex® glass finally crossed the Atlantic and was established in Paris.
The production of glass products was gradually reduced in Paris and the factory in Chateauroux, set up in 1970 with what was said to be the biggest furnace in France, quickly became the main production site.
