Bell Lighting is carbon neutral

Bell LIghting

Bell Lighting has become carbon neutral as part of its shift towards sustainability.

The Normanton-based firm said it was a first step towards reaching its net zero goal in the coming years.

The company has recently introduced circular economy-focused products into its range and developing a strategy which places eco-initiatives at the centre of its thinking.

Bell Lighting is rated silver with EcoVadis, placing it in the top 7 per cent of companies in the industry. The company says its future ambition is to a achieve carbon neutral status by reducing carbon wherever possible, and utilising carbon offsetting projects.

It also aims to move to sustainable packaging, implement paper-free processes throughout the business. The company is also targeting ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification and a move to all electric company cars, amongst other changes.

Last year the firm introduced the Firestay Geo LED Sustainable Modular Downlight into the market, a product which allows for reuse and remanufacture, thanks to the Geo-Mod light module which can be returned to Bell Lighting for remanufacture at the point of failure.

With housing designed to remain in the ceiling for life, the product results in zero waste to landfill.

The Geo-Mod®  light engine enables the user to replace the CCT LED unit at the end of product life, with the module designed to be returned to a local Bell Lighting collection hub such as an electrical wholesaler.

Bell says that in turn, 90 per cent of all material returned will be re-used and re-manufactured.

There are six bezel options (white, satin, brass, antique brass and matt black) and four colour temperatures. The packaging is manufactured from 100 per cent recycled material.

The measures will ensure that the patented Geo achieves an ‘excellent’ TM66 rating for its circularity.

There’s a seven year warranty, a lumen maintenance ratio of 80 and an IP ratings of IP65. It’s also certified fire-rated for I-joists.

Downlights are a huge category in the lighting industry. AMA Research estimates that 20 million downlight units are released into the UK Lighting market every year, with only 25 per cent of the material used currently recycled.

The Firestay Geo won two Electrical Contracting News Awards (Lighting Product of the Year and Smart Buildings/Sustainability Product of the Year), along with a prestigious Build Back Better Green Award.
