First EucoLight conference looks at Circular Economy and LED recycling
EucoLight, the association of European Lighting WEEE compliance schemes held its first annual Conference and General Assembly this month in Chantilly, France.
The conference objective was to review and respond to the recycling challenges and opportunities of evolving lamp and lighting equipment. Insight was received from the 60 delegates representing 16 lighting WEEE compliance scheme members of EucoLight and experts from European lighting manufacturers.
EucoLight Vice-Chairman and host of the Chantilly conference Hervé Grimaud (Managing Director of Récylum, France) said “The EucoLight conference received updates on a wide range of issues including LED recycling, rare earth recovery, and a number of regulatory aspects arising from the WEEE directive. Delegates also considered the increasing contribution that WEEE lighting compliance schemes can make within the framework of the Circular Economy Package”.
EucoLight Chairman Juan-Carlos Enrique added “We were delighted to welcome two new organisations to membership of EucoLight: Amb3E from Portugal and Ekosij from Slovenia. With the admission of these two members, EucoLight now comprises 18 WEEE lighting compliance schemes and 1 affiliated member, LightingEurope. We really can claim to be the voice of lighting WEEE compliance in Europe.”
Recolight CEO and EucoLight board member Nigel Harvey added: “A circular economy is crucial for the European economy. LED lamps present particular challenges to achieving high levels of recycling, and it is pleasing that this is being fully addressed by EucoLight.”
