Erco spotlight designed for 75,000 hour life

Erco Optec

Erco has unveiled the latest generation of Optec spotlight, the first to be made according its new eco-design protocol, which mandates that they be designed to last for a continuous operating time of 75,000 hours.

Mounted on either on the classic Erco track or on the 48V Minirail 48V track, the family includes a large selection in various sizes and light distributions, colours and control. The housing, connections and joints may be replaced or removed individually, and every component is accessible – for example, for repairs due to external influences.

‘Optec’s role as a volume model with large numbers of units sold means that optimising in terms of sustainability has a particularly positive effect on the overall performance,’ the company said in a statement.

‘Erco is breaking new ground in several areas: OptecNew 48V was the first spotlight to be developed in accordance with the new eco-design concept. This states that all newly developed luminaires must be developed and tested for a continuous operating time of about 75,000 hours.

‘This corresponds to a service life of 20 years, presuming standard product use, compliance with maintenance intervals and a period of illumination of about ten hours per day.

‘All of this is made possible by the high-quality design and durable components – ranging from the optoelectronics developed and manufactured in-house to the housings with optimum thermal management and the tried-and-tested track adapters, which can be repositioned at wish and are compatible with a large variety of existing track systems.’

The company has designed out all adhesive joints in the range. The housing, connections and joints may be replaced or removed individually, and every component is accessible for repairs and for adaptation to future user requirements.

The aluminium parts of the housing are made from 100 per cent recycled metal. Compared to its predecessor, the revised design of OptecNew additionally saves up to 30 per cent material, says Erco.
